So Kanji's pretty cool... He has a chair. I'm sorry but this drought of information and videos has left me very sad and wanting to talk about it. Does anyone have anything?

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.
Okay, so Kanji will most likely be more deadly then everyone thinks.
If I compare him to another fighting game character, I'd say King from Tekken.
Kanji is capable of chaining multiple ground grapples together.
Judging by his movelist, his R-action can lead to death!
The fact that he has a paralysis status effect can really increase his chances of opening his opponent up.
Lets not forgot he can jump into his grapples AND possesses an air dash; He aint exactly a Zangief in this game.
Lastly, his awakening super "To a Crisp" leaves you in the corner!
The early loketest footage of him doesn't do this character any justice.
He's totally capable of a lot more once fully utilized.
I think this is one character everyone should learn what he's fully capable of.

He already has a big advantage as a grappler because he has some good mobility, which means he can get in easier than the likes of Zangief and Tager.
But he already looks like he has better tools than most grapplers too, he has a decent antiair move (2B), He also has a pretty good air to ground command grabs (Brace yourself and Gotcha), and some of his grabs haves pretty solid ways to help him get to zoners (Buster Attack B and EX, has a hit of Super Armor, Brace Yourself EX lunges fullscreen).
He looks like a great character who can devastate in a hurry once he gets started, can't wait to play him.
I agree that Kanji is probably gonna be slept on. But hes the one character in the game I know I wont ever play. Me and grapplers don't bond well at all, and I didnt really like Kanji as a character either. He was pretty funny but I never used him and battle and I got his rank to lv. 2 before I just lost interest.
Anywho, I'm also surprised on how fast he is also. He most likely has the highest health in the game, and his damage output seems to be insane. I can already imagine really scary resets with his command grabs that are just gonna demolish the opponents health. While his movement seems to be fast (for a grappler) the startup for his normals seem to be pretty slow. In a good of videos his normals were stuffed by characters like Chie, Yu, and Yosuke.
Idk not much else to say. I really don't like grapplers
I'm with you. I've never liked grapplers. Usually because of how slow they are. I cannot play a slow character in a fighter I just can't do it. But I'm surprised at Kanji's speed. That combined with his damage output is gonna make him a VERY dangerous character. I've always wondered what would happen if anyone ever made a faster grappler lol.
Hes still slow and clunky though, hes just a more noob friendly grappler. Air dash, dash, qcf/b command grabs. Doesnt mean hes gonna be dangerous, just that you need to play footsies and keep him out and rush in when his Persona is gone.
Another thing is he isn't just an idle grappler like Zangief, Hugo, etc. He has the help of a Persona extending his options.
I'd say he's probably the most well rounded grappler in recent memory.
Well yeah, he more than likely has the worst mobility in game, but he still has some pretty impressive moves that allow him to get in.
I don't play grappler often, but I have a friend that often goes with grapplers, once they're in, the can do some scary stuff. You can play some serious mind games and control the temp. Kanji has some good anti air moves that allows him to control the area pretty well, and some of his grabs allow him to cover area pretty quickly. If a Kanji player isn't predictable, he might be lethal.
The problem is, a lot of his moves to get aren't stellar. At long range he can dash, air dash, try his air to ground grab (which I imagine is horrible like that tbh lol), he can use his lightning bolt which I'm assuming is locked into one or two positions on screen, depending on the button used most likely. He also has those two Persona attacks. The problem is against any zoner or character with a fast full screen Persona rush (like Yosuke for example) the Persona moves (at least the overhead slow swing) will get blown up. If he tries to dash in, you can zone him out, if you whiff the lightning bolt he's likely REALLY punishable, especially if he whiffs behind his opponent letting them run in and attack him and using the grab to try and close the gap I'm sure can't be safe. Honestly the safest thing I'd think is to stay on the ground and approach them like any grappler would, slowly and carefully, and corner them.
Once in though, he has some real cool things he could likely do most likely, like landing a command throw while his Persona is out at a range they need to block it for example...that is if he can command grab. His ground command throw is a Persona move....well I;m sure it still works even if your Persona is out....he'd lose a lot of good stuff without being able to do that at any rate lol
The best thing about people thinking grapplers are only played by noobs, due to them being very noob-friendly, is that they drop their guard because of this. Afterall~ one of the main tasks for a grappler to do is to punish accordingly when someone messes up, using them mind games, tech traps, or just simply waiting for your opponent to fuck up. Although I agree that going in slow and steady is good, or just staying back and making your opponent commit to coming in works too. Kanji has nice mobility for a grappler, I believe it will be a lot harder to maintain getting away, but that's just me.
