It's a pity you feel like this about the ending, I remember being quite sad.
A lot of people have explained why they liked the ending and I completely agree with them.

So I'll ask you this, if you don't like this ending, how should the game have ended according to you?

Persona 3's ending was gorgeous, in my opinion.
Atlus did a great job on it.
Beyond the beaten path lies the absolute end. It matters not who you are Death awaits you.

I loved the ending thought it was great, I even teared up a little. Also Nyx avatar was a fantastic last boss IMO.
Being this fabulous can be tough at times but for you mongrels I’ll continue to be fabulous.

Seeing as Persona 3 was my very first Persona game and well, I see nothing wrong with the game, maybe its that "First game you played in the series is automatically your favorite off all time" syndrome but yeah also this may or may not include spoilers so blah, I love this game, nothing is better than this game.

for example, Minato (You, THE PLAYER) is actually very quiet, lone wolf kind of guy at the beginning of the game, The Social Link aspects is more or less viewed like this. Minato (You, THE PLAYER) come to this new town and new school, your parents died when you were ten and you have been shipped from place to place. This only over the years makes someone dejected from humanity and tend to keep to themselves. Okay, so your in your new school you have NO FRIENDS, nothing. Junpei is more or less the first guy who shot a B-line to you in class, besides Yukari, she isn't really considered a friend at this point. So making your way through school and trying to make some new friends, S. Link GO! I find that the S. Links were a very good idea in this game, however then your suddenly spiraled down by what is known as the "Dark Hour" again, think of it like this. Wouldn't you be crept out by seeing a green moon and blood on the floor? while being surrounded by coffins? You have to fight these black gooey slimes---I mean "Shadows"

    BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!
so after many encounters with people throughout the game and you finally reach Nyx Avater--- "Oh Hai Dere Ryoji-kun~"
you fight him, slaughter him and then somehow "The Fall" happens and gravity becomes so heavy your friends are rendered in capable of joining you in your fight against the big bad boss man, Nyx--- "Oh Hai Dere big shiny ball of Doom~" Obviously Minato (You, THE PLAYER) is unaffected by the very heavy gravity and somehow float your way to Nyx...Okay...?
The only move your going to be seeing is "DEATH" which kills you but somehow you hear your friends voices telling you to never give up, they shall stand by thine side, and how the only person who can save the world is Minato (You....THE PLAYER ^^'')

So you beat Nyx, Hurray you saved the world, School time, Minato (I'm not saying it again D<) go around the school talking to everyone of your friends for the "last time" and every time you do, "You feel extremely tired, maybe you should rest..." anyway everyone seems to get a quick effect of amnesia and when they finally realized they all promised to meet you and Aigis on the roof they are too late because Minato (last time.... You, THE PLAYER :I) have closed your eyes due to extreme fatigue however once you close your eyes, you are never to wake up again because you became "The Great Seal" and keep Nyx at bay to never step forth on earth. ^^ Yay~ now don't YOU, THE PLAYER feel special by dying?

    I enjoyed the p3 ending.
MC slept with like almost every random chick and died like a boss.

The ending left me in awe. I was amazed the the seemingly indestructible and impressive pimp of a man that I had guided to this point in the game was now about to give up his life to seal Nyx. I noticed that there was a lot of symbolism that led me to believe MC was Brotag Jesus Pimp Master Race, especially the whole giving up your life for humanity part. It really made sense of the fact that MC's ultimate persona was Messiah.

I haven't actually played through as far as the ending--merely spoiled it for myself on YouTube--so I can't comment on it from a gameplay perspective, beyond noting that most turn-based RPG final bosses are pathetic when you grind for them. Story-wise I love the ending, as well as how The Answer expands on it. I feel a certain amount of malcontent about the ending, but mainly because I feel like the protagonist got a raw deal in life and deserved better than a heroic self-sacrifice ending. That's not me disapproving from a story standpoint, that's me just wishing the character had gotten a happier ending; if the ending makes me feel that way, it actually says good things about the story and characters as a whole.
