Not only should you not be establishing a direct comparison between the work-in-progress in-game character select screen with the one on the website because that might not be how the characters are disposed in the final game, but the website already has characters placed differently when compared to what we've seen in the actual game as Naoto is to the far left on the site, not Aigis.
Plus, what would be the significance of the remaining Twitter icon—the very last one—when we take Akihiko and Mitsuru into account?
This proves that there's one more character involved that we don't know of yet. Also, with the story beats that we know of now (Teddie organizing a tournament for a particular reason, Aigis being in Inaba for a particular reason, and Mitsuru getting something stolen from her), it wouldn't make sense for all of the fighting characters to have already been revealed. There has to be something connecting them all together, not to mention the fact that none of them particularly fit the role of "boss" character.
Finally, upon the early days of the site's launch, people had checked out the source code of the website and had found one thing of note:
"Syuyaku". This combined with the fact that ArcSys (or Atlus, I don't remember) had said something akin to "The possibility of original characters is not out of the question." in an interview makes it very likely that this Syuyaku is a remaining character yet to be revealed.

So this 'Syuyaku' figure may be the villian of this game? Any leads on the gender of this character? The name sounds female but I'm not very familiar with feminine and masculine Japanese names.
The game doesn't necessarily need to have a villain, especially since the Persona Team seem to like Big Bads that are doing what they're doing to save or protect humanity (Persona 3, Persona 4, Catherine). But yes, it's possible that 'Syuyaku' is the figure behind the events of the game. No information has been given on him or her as of yet.
Why am I thinking of a female Hazama now.
Also their is always the chance that one of the cast will be evil such as something like Teddy losing his mind and using this "Syuyaku" to be the villain so he can carry out his master plan of world domination . . . . .depending on what he stole from Mitsuru and Akihiko and Aigis sensed danger and went to stop Teddy by beating him up.
Also everyone else must think this is a fighting tourny set up by this "Syuyaku" and they are being forced to participate in it or "Syuyaku" will conducted its master plan using the object he/she stole from Mitsuru and Akihiko.

Sorry. . .I got carried away by my fantasies and I forgot about that.

I dunno, while thats the preliminary story we're GIVEN, I just have lots of doubts it's that simple, especially as has already been proven, Teddie isn't the games final boss (in arcade mode), obviously something else must be behind this, one way or another
and I should really read more then the last two posts lmao. I'd imagine this guy is the thief mentioned in the character bio for Mits/Aki. Given that name, I suspect it might be some sort of Shadow, perhaps a Shadow that commands another larger shadow as his Persona or something like that?
I just thought of this, if this was known before, why the heck didn't anyone know about Aki or Mitsuru? Where is the source of this "leak" anyway?
I'm not saying anything to the contrary, either. It's obvious that there's more to know about the story, which is one of the reasons that there's still at least one more character that has yet to be shown.
Ah, nvm. I see.
For 'Syuyaku' to be a Shadow with a conscious, it would have to be originated from an actual person, just like Metis to Aigis or any of the Persona 4 boss Shadows. So unless 'Syuyaku' is just a straight up monster who can't speak comprehensibly or unless Atlus feels like retconning the whole P4 plot, I can't see it happening.

I edited a ton, sorry about that =p
What about Teddie? Teddie was originally a Shadow that developed an ego? Isn't it fully possible another Shadow could of evolved like that?
