It's almost impossible to complete all social links without a guide. So use this.

Persona 3 is generally very air tight about it's social links. Even with the guide, you can easily screw up. Most notably early on, when you're stat grinding. Closest I've been to maxing out is all but Fuuka's Social link, 2 levels away because I missed a few opportunities to max courage due to lack of money at the beginning of the game.
The key is to go to Tartarus as little as possible, and get as much money per visit as is feasible. Level grinding is something you should save for late-game, after you've finished everything you can possibly do at night (although the Tower and Devil Social Links are the easiest to max in the game since there are way more days than you actually need to work on them). Pick up Coin cards in every Shuffle unless you need a Persona Card (and you need very few of those since you mainly get gimp Fusion fodder Personas that early on anyway). One thing to keep in mind is that once you have a Persona of Level 6 or higher, equipping it will cause most Block 1 Shadows to flee in terror when you approach, allowing you to farm treasure chests to your heart's content, which is a good way to grind when you're tired and your party members have already bailed for the night.
The first free after-school day allows you a free "Great" status boost via the restroom. So while the guide suggests going to the movies for a Courage boost, I prefer to go to the shrine for a 5-point Academics boost and take the Courage boost at night from the Arcade instead, saving Tartarus for a night or two later. Keep the Arcade schedule in mind and plan Tartarus trips around that; don't worry as much about Charm early on since by keeping your Academics up you'll ace exams and get more Charm points anyway. Always, always take the free Courage boost from the Nurse's Office when tired and always save. Keep in mind that in FES (as opposed to Portable) you can go do a night activity in Paulownia Mall *and* study in your room in the same night, so do both every single day. The Arcade is the best place to get point boosts since it always gives you four points, but those games are never available on Sundays so the movies and the Shrine are your only options then.
DO focus on your Courage more early on since it's the first of the three max-stat Social Links that becomes available. There's literally no point maxing out Academics before November since Mitsuru is "busy" before then regardless of Academics status, but it takes twice as many points to max so you need to work on it from the start all the way through.
Side note: don't forget to pick up the Court Card sets that Mitsuru gives you for acing exams. The stat boosts are worth it and transfer via Fusion. If you feel like doing so, stockpiling them until the end of the game and dumping them all onto an endgame-level Persona will pretty much max that Persona's stats out, making for one hell of a broken Persona.
