Introduction

Yosuke is really strong in the neutral department, thanks to his great normals and movement options. Yosuke's main goal is to get in using his strong neutral game and deal damage. Contrary to popular belief, Yosuke shouldn't be zipping around the screen pressing random buttons / specials all the time.

Yosuke is able to perform 3 actions (using Mirage Slash, Kunai and/or Moonsault) in the air (4 in sukukaja). Both his ground throw and air throw inflict poison status. He has Tentarafoo which puts the opponent in confusion state. Yosuke also has the fastest run speed and highest jump height in the game.

With low HP (8300), he can't afford many mistake so be cautious with how you use moves and when you press buttons.
Important Tools

Gliding(66 > j2B~A+C):

Yosuke's most important tool is his ability to glide. Gliding is performed by jumping in the air and doing 66 > j2B~A+C (j3b works just as well and is easier). Gliding will allow Yosuke to keep the momentum of his air dash but he'll hit the ground much quicker and at a much better angle. Gliding can be used as a tool to get in, to mixup the opponent during a combo (5C > 2C > IAD Glide > jA or 2A or throw for the high/low) or help him bait moves since he is able to block after performing the glide. Yosuke is also able to glide backwards by doing Jump > Air turn > airdash > glide. THIS IS ONE OF YOSUKE MOST IMPORTANT TOOLS.
Instant Air Backdash jD:

jD is an extremely important tool, this will help getting with across the screen in a much easier fashion. jD will travel full screen allowing Yosuke to travel behind it from a safe distance via running or gliding. Becoming predictable with this move will result in a few broken persona cards, so use this smartly. In some matchups (Mitsuru, Labrys, Yukiko, Aigis) it's advised to use this move a little less than usual due to it's 33 frame start up (Mitsuru's Coup Droit and Labrys' jB can punish this and Yukiko's fans will break Jiraiya constantly). CH jD can lead into great damage.

jA:

jA is one of Yosuke's good air buttons, extremely fast (5 frame startup) and capable of hitting behind him and counts as an overhead.

Yosuke's most valuable air tool. It has an extremely large hitbox and overhead capabilities thus making it Yosuke's third main combo starter.

Dash Spring (236A/B/AB):

One of Yosuke's main combos tools. A version runs a short distance, B version nearly reaches full screen and causes a ground bounce. SB version reaches full screen, projectile invincible during frames 13-31 and causes a ground bounce on counter hit. SB is great for punishing Zoners at full screen distance. One of the great things about Dash Spring B is the ability to OMC (One more cancel) it during certain hits (just before Yosuke launches himself into the air) to create an instant overhead using jA.

Honorable Mentions

Kunai (236C/D/CD) - Combo ender and pseudo-zoning tool. The C version is thrown at a 70° angle and recovers in 23 frames (after landing) and D Version is thrown at a 55° angle and recovers in 27 frames (after landing). SB Kunai allows you to perform another air action.

Moonsault (Air 236A/B/AB) - One of Yosuke's main mixup tools and can cross up in the corner. It can be done up to 3 times in the air (4 in Sukukaja) and can be cancelled into any air special. Frames 1-9 are invul which can beat out some Anti-airs, but watch out for air grabs. SB Version does an automatic Crescent Slash.

Mirage Slash (j2C/D) - Hits low. Great for baiting Anti-airs and catching the opponent off guard. Extremely unsafe, however the slide part becomes special cancel-able in Sukukaja. The teleport (start up) can be cancelled into Kunais or Moonsault. The SB version teleports him straight to the ground with no slide, can be used for faking out (still has some recovery).

5C - Good mid-range poke tool. Due to it being a Persona move, it's not suggested to be thrown out all the time because you'll end up losing persona cards constantly.

Supers

Garudyne:

Yosuke's primary super for ending combos. Extremely unsafe (-33 to be exact) however this move can be made much more safer by moving downwards during the last few hits so you hit the ground faster. On block Garudyne becomes a really scary mixup tool thanks to One More Cancelling into Moonsaulting afterwards, overhead confirms, lows or grabs.

Sukukaja:

Yosuke's speed install super that last 20 seconds. Sukukaja changes a lot about Yosuke's normals and specials:

-Ground dash becomes invisible.
-Allows him to dash cancel certain normals / moves.
-Allows 5B, 5C, 2C, j.C to all be jump cancelled.
-Grants him 4 air actions instead of 3
-Mirage Slash Slide can now be special cancelled.
-Changes the distance of Dash Spring A/B versions reach nearly full screen.
-2C causes knock back.

It also changes how his combos work, so if you plan to use this move, learn the combos to go with it.

Offense and Defense (What? Where? Why? How?)

Offense:

Yosuke has extreme strong pressure thanks to his normals. 5B allows him to perform easy frametraps. Midrange / Shortrange is where he truly shines, his normals (5A, 5B, 2A, 5C) cover that range perfectly. Keep at this range to bait normals with footsies and then go in for a FC / CH combo using his excellent movement speed. At long range Yosuke has the option to maintain that distance and try to counter their approach or just go in using Gliding / Running with the IA jD assist. EX Dash Spring is great for catching zoners seeing as it's projectile invincible during frames 13-31 which can lead into a decent CH combo.

Gliding is one of Yosuke's most important tools when it comes to offense. It allows him to get into, to maintain pressure and to mix up. Learning to Glide can make a lot of the zoner matchups (Yukiko, Liz, Naoto) a lot easier.

Defense:

Yosuke's R-Action (Dodge) is a great defensive tool. It has loooong active frames (47) and a great hitbox help him beat certain approaches easily. If Yosuke lands Dodge from a jumping normal (Mitsuru's jB for example) he can actually combo off it with 2A, so you can punish certain jump in with nice damage. However his R-Action cannot kill.

As mentioned before, Yosuke has one of the best Anti-airs (2B) in the game, use this to AA jump-ins and other air movements. Thanks to it being jump cancel-able on hit and block, it allows him to get nice and easy damage or quick escapes.

Gliding is not only an offensive tool, but it can be used defensively as well. It will help him escape corners safely or just get away from the opponent using the backwards Glide (Jump > Air turn > airdash > glide).

Ah where to start...ahem!

Hello everyone! Its my first time signin up to a forum such as this one, so go easy on me. Im a huge Persona 4 fan! Loved every second of it, and then i saw persona 4 arena on the scene. I actually like fighting games, but i never seem to get too deep into them for one reason or the other. I tried Blazblue, Guilty Gear, and other 2D fighting games, but i never really got the hang of it. Even though i liked the style and fast gameplay.

So to sum it up, im kinda of a noob. Well, a complete one. BUT! Im trying hard to learn how to play this one! I want to get better at it so that i can enjoy the game more, and stop embarassing myself in online fights hahahaha! Plus, my ever growing love for the Persona series is keeping me motivated. I hope im in the right place to learn some advanced gameplay! And maybe get to know more ppl to play online. That would be awesome!

So anyway, thanks for reading so far! Im sure it will be nice to get to know everyone!

Another new user here.

Im 24, come from germany and just get Persona 4 Arena since its finally here in Europe. Sadly I have a hard time getting into this game. The only game in this genre I really play "competitive" is smash bros melee/brawl. Since this game is obviously not comparable with P4A at all it's pretty hard to get used to it.

I already played blazblue for a while but never really get the hang of it and eventually dropped it. Mainly because I don't really liked the game itself. I dont know why, I loved the gameplay, soundtrack and the hilarious humor in this game. But the characterdesign felt so bland and cliche, it wasnt even funny. You could say that to most beat'em'ups, but yeah... For some reason it felt even more noticeable in blazblue. Whatever, its completly subjective and may piss of some BB fans, so let's just forget it. Fact is, I kinda liked blazblue but still dropped it and only played it casually with friends. So I do understand the basics in P4A and have some excercise.

At the moment my main is akihiko, i'm also planning to take either elizabeth or naoto as a secondary. I really love elizabeth as a person but dislike her fightingstyle though, so im not sure about her. maybe it will be yukiko then.

Anyway, I wrote way to much. Im playing the PS3 version of P4A, so if anyone would say he's good I would really appreciate to find some mentors and friends to play it just for fun. Oh, and I hope you don't mind my english since its obviously not my native language.

Meep! Hello everyone. I'm a new guy around here. :)
I'm a huge fighting game fan (Persona is great too!) and I wanted to include P4A to my collection~ I've been lurking here for quite some time actually since the delay of P4A was announced. :T But hey, the game has finally arrived in Europe (sadly in an inappropriate time with all the exams/finals coming up :().

Anyway, the game is here, this place is nice, so I registered~! :yoball: Hope to have some great matches with you~! ^^

Confused about the time? Look here: http://wwp.centraleuropeantime.com/

How it will be done?
- Players who signed up will be split in two groups. One group will play a tournament on Saturday and the other group will play on Sunday. This was decided to make things easier for Australians and to make it possible to stream every match. Once both tournaments are over, the winners get to fight on the grand finals.
- Both tournaments will be double elimination, matches will be best of three with two rounds to win one match. Finals will be best of five.
- Only the loser of each game can change their character. The winner has to use same character as the previous match they won. If a dispute arises on the first match while selecting characters, players can ask for a blind pick.
- We're gonna play on PSN through Player Match with 4 players, 2 commentators, 1 streamer and the hoster (Rowanism).
- On the day of the tournament, make sure to be on this IRC Channel at least one hour before the real thing. Rowanism will work on the brackets at that time, if you don't arrive until 18:00 PM (CET), I'll give you 15 minutes to log in there. If you don't, then unfortunately, we're gonna start without you.

Prizes?
- 1st Place - 10 Euro PSN Card (Stevie) + Custom signature (Galadin)
- 2nd Place - Custom signature (Galadin)
- 3rd Place - Custom signature (Galadin)

Streamed?
- Yes, right here, props to Stevie. RandomFactor and Legacy (both from DissidiaForums) will be the commentators. Hopefully.

What about lag?
- Be sure torrents, downloads, etc aren’t running. Make sure you pause the stream when it's your time for doing matches. Make sure your connection is stable prior to the tournament.

Communication?
- IRC Channel
- Stream Chat

How do I sign up?
- All you need to do is to post in this thread with your name and PSN.
- Sign ups will close May 25th.
